Tips for Cleaning Grease
Cleaning grease in your kitchen, or any other area, is not an easy job. No matter how careful you are, there is just no way to keep from getting grease splatters or spills in your kitchen. Plus you will get grease build up on your walls, ceiling, and kitchen appliances. If grease splatters or spills, it is often easy to clean up if you do it soon after the accident, but if you are looking at cleaning grease stains, this can be a challenging job, to say the least.
There are several different ways of cleaning grease, the method you use will depend on a couple of different things, such as how deeply set the grease stain is, as well as the type of surface you will be cleaning.
Having to clean grease from clothes is a common problem, especially for those who cook on a regular basis. When frying foods, such as bacon or sausage, there is really no way to prevent grease splattering, and sometimes this grease can splatter on clothing. If this happens you can always use a stain remover that is meant for clothing. Pouring liquid laundry detergent onto the stain and letting it soak in for several minutes before adding the clothing to your regular wash could also work. Although this way of cleaning grease should work, you will want to examine the clothing to ensure that the stain is indeed out; do this before putting the clothing in the dryer. If the stain is still in the clothes, the heat from the dryer will only make the stain permanent, and this is exactly what you don’t want.
Cleaning grease off of kitchen surfaces may not be quite as easy as getting it out of clothing. Grease buildup on kitchen cabinets will harden over time, and getting the grease off will be not be too easy. If you have wooden cabinets it will be even more difficult because you won’t be able to use anything abrasive on the cabinets, as it will damage the wood. One of the best ways for cleaning grease off of wood cabinets in the kitchen is to use lemon oil. This will work very well for getting the grease off, but it won’t damage the finish or scar the wood.
Cleaning grease out of your oven can be another unpleasant task. If you don’t wipe out your oven on a regular basis, you will end up with a thick layer of baked in grease on the inside of the oven. It is easy to forget to wipe out the oven when you are cleaning the kitchen, but after a while the oven will not be easy to just clean with a damp cloth.
If this happens you can always try using a store bought oven cleaner. All that you have to do is spray a good coat of oven cleaner on the inside surface of the appliance; let it set for however long the instructions say, and then wipe out. Most chemical oven cleaners work well, but you will need to read the instructions completely. Always ensure that you wear rubber gloves when using oven cleaner so that the chemical does not burn the skin, plus the fumes from oven cleaner are pretty bad so open up your house when spraying oven cleaner.
There is no doubt that cleaning grease can be one of the most frustrating and difficult housecleaning jobs there is, but if you use the right products and tools, you should have little problem getting rid of any stubborn grease stain.
